Atlantic Yachts produces cruising boats for owners who prefer not to be restricted to a particular cruising area. Drying out in Brittany, exploring the south-west coast of Ireland and sailing to Iceland or the Azores – the only limit is the owner’s imagination. Atlantic yachts are generous and feature a warm, comfortable interior and a deck layout attuned to owners who like to cruise and appreciate great performance and ease of handling.
A cruising formula
Fast speeds are not the main issue with a cruiser. High daily mileages are more important, day and night, in any wind direction, in light airs or stiff breezes. Such a performance requires excellent sailing properties from a generous sail area, a very long waterline and an ergonomically designed deck layout which allows all sail handling to be carried out singlehanded. The twin rudders make steering a pleasure and lighten the work of the autopilot or windvane. The retractable keel makes it possible to sail in deep and shallow waters equally.
Comfort at sea
Atlantic yachts afford maximum comfort in just the right moments at sea. Real comfort is not defined by built-in contrivances; it is a question of ergonomics: sitting, working and resting should be comfortable in port and while underway. The fixed, low sprayhood represents a convenient transition between the outside world and the warmth below decks, sheltering from the weather whilst maintaining contact with the helmsman. This is where the crew changes into and out of sailing togs. It is also a dry storage area for gear that needs to be kept within arm’s reach. In short, the sprayhood is the most used part of the boat. In addition, it provides ample ventilation in all weather conditions.
Reliable
Each Atlantic is a sturdy, safe floating home and a reliable investment. The craftsmanship required to achieve this quality is immediately apparent and adds to the pleasure of sailing. The solid aluminium construction and extensive protection and insulation are a recipe for longevity. The installation of deck fittings, engine and hydraulic & electrical systems is undertaken with the greatest care, resulting in trouble-free operation, even in difficult conditions. Each Atlantic is built according to the CE-A standard.
The models
Atlantic yachts range from 36 to 51 feet. Their layout and specifications can be customised to meet the needs of each individual client. Listening to sailors and clients is a strong point of the yard – for instance, the development of the new Atlantic 46 Pilothouse partly builds on the information given by experienced sailors who wished for even greater protection from the elements. This resulted in the fixed sprayhood becoming a full-blown pilothouse.
The keels
The electric/hydraulic lifting keel or swing keel both result in excellent sailing characteristics. The draught varies with the type of yacht and keel version, from 0.75 up to 3.24 metres. Both type of keels in combination with the twin rudders, make it possible to enter shallow waters or to beach the boat in tidal waters. Fixed keel version is also possible and provides a maximum freedom for all possible interior layouts.
