While catamaran sailing yachts are relatively common, they are rarer in the motoryacht sector. This is surprising considering these types of boats are often much more energy-efficient, more spacious and more stable than mono-hulls. Jan van Eck aims to fill this gap in the market with his brand-new and unique DutchCat.
An all-Dutch network
DutchCat provides a stable, energy-efficient and comfortable catamaran that features the renowned craftsmanship of a large network of leading Dutch manufacturers. Vripack translated the ideas of Van Eck into a contemporary, functional design, while specialised suppliers provided the most suitable parts.
First model: the DutchCatTwelve
The first model is the DutchCatTwelve. Among its unique features is a length/beam ratio of 12.55 metres by 4.90 metres, as well as the headroom of 2.10 to 2.20 metres. Additionally, the floor of the spacious cockpit and cabin (30 m²) is completely flush and offers a flexible layout as well as 360-degree views. Moreover, owners can choose between diesel, hybrid or even 100% electrical propulsion.
Two types of shoes
The DutchCat is available in comfort and sports versions, the difference between the two being the underwater segment. “Owners can choose between two types of shoes,” explains Van Eck. “Comfortable trainers or athletic running shoes.” The comfort version has a hull speed of 11 knots (20 km/h), while the sports version is faster with a hull speed of 22 knots (40 km/h).
